Hiroyuki Horihata and Makiko Sekiguchi both studied at the men¡Çs design course at Bunka Fashion College Apparel Design Department, following graduation from the Doshisha University graduate school and Kyorin University, respectively.
After graduating from Bunka Fashion College in 1998, the two spent five years working for different designer brands as men¡Çs/ladies¡Ç patterners.
They both left their respective brands and moved to Britain together in 2003 to become involved in collections under a London-based designer. After returning to Japan, they set up an atelier in Sendagaya, Tokyo in October 2004.
In March 2005, they set up the company LEWS Ten to launch the brand matohu.
