In 2009 Austria and Japan are celebrating 140 years of diplomatic relations. At this occasion the Austrian Embassy is presenting a cultural event that will lead you from the time of the first encounter 140 years ago through present times into an imaginary future by featuring fashion styles from all these periods. Five young Austrian and five young Japanese fashion labels have been drawing their creativity from each other’s traditional styles, the former working with Kimono material, the latter on Austrian “Dirndl”-fabric. The traditional part will introduce some beautiful historic costumes both from Austria and Japan, the present “prêt à porter” looks will be covered by one of the most prominent fashion houses of Vienna.
