Born in Tokyo in 1965. Studied Fashion Design at Bunka Fashion College in 1987 and later started his career at an apparel enterprise. Maruyama then became freelance in 1990 and created costume designs for musicians and actors. Debuted at Tokyo Collection in 1994 and won Mainichi Fashion Grand Prix Award for New Talent in 1996. Made his Paris runway debut in 1997 and received FEC Designer Award in 1998. Founded Knowledge International in 2001. Opened his 2nd flagship shop at Roppongi Hills, Tokyo in 2003 and his 1st shop in Paris in 2005.
