Mohri's Clothes: The Costumes of Super Kabuki "Yamato Takeru"
Japonisme had a large influence on Western art and culture throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Van Gogh and Gauguin are among the artists whose work displays a debt to Japanese arts. Now, in the 21st century, the influence of Japanese culture is also being felt. Having designed costumes for such productions as the ballet Castadiva (1980, Dir:Maurice Bejart), the opera Le Coq D'or (1984, Dir:Ennosuke Ichikawa), and "super kabuki" "Yamato Takeru" (1986, Dir:Ennosuke Ichikawa), I took great delight in being a part of the wave of Japonsime.
