Founded Reina Trading Co., ltd. in 1977. Started designing for the fur label Royal Fur in 1978 and began producing a collection of Mosaique de Chie coats. Acquired Futaba Fur, the exclusive furrier of the Japanese Imperial Family in 1991. Launched and designed for her Royal Chie label in 1993. In 1999, Imai became the first Asian designer to be invited to showcase her collection in New York with the likes of Valentino and Yves Saint Laurent. Became one out of forty to be selected as Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the World for 2002 and was presented with the award in Paris. Also opened Royal Chie on Madison Avenue in New York.
