Ryan is a French-born Scot who graduated from Glasgow University of Art with a degree in Printed Textiles in 1986 and went on to get an M.A. in Fashion Design from Central St. Martins in 1988. Yoshida graduated from Oda Design School in 1986 and met Ryan on the Fashion Design M.A. course at St. Martins,which she graduated from in 1988. They worked together at several European maisons before coming to Japan to work for Kansai Yamamoto in 1989, subsequently goingfreelance in 1991. The Duo started YAB YUM in 1994 and debuted at the Tokyo Collections in 1996.
